Fishers of Men

In church today our sermon was about reaching out to those who don't know Jesus.
Jesus called the disciples to be fishers of men, and Pastor Mike talked to us about fishing for lost souls.
I don't fish, but I thought I understood the concept. It turns out I didn't.
Here's four things you need to know to go fishing:
1. Always choose the right bait. For example, if the people you are reaching out to are interested in sports, appealing to them through music might not be the best bait.
2. Don't get sidetracked. I'll continue with sports. If I go to a sporting event or park where athletes are playing, I don't need to lose my focus by playing with the babies on the playground, taking pictures of the pretty sunset, or going to the concession stand. I need to find a way to minister to the lost. I can take bottles of sports drinks, say encouraging words about an athlete making a basket, or I could take a picture and offer to forward it to them.
3. Go where the fish are biting. If the door has been slammed in my face, pick a different neighborhood.
4. Get yourself a good fishing guide. Jesus is our ultimate role model. But if we are targeting a specific area of town, or a group of people, it's a good idea to talk to somebody familiar with the people.

These were just four ideas he shared to get us started thinking about how to reach the lost. I was so intrigued, I wanted to share them with you.

Thanks for stopping by!

What a gentleman

Even if you don't like sports stories, I think you'll like this.

A few weeks ago UK played U of L in the final four. Terrance Jones ran off the floor and fell into some cheerleaders for U of L. Jerica Logue was injured to the point of needing stitches.
After the game somebody told Terrance, and he said he'd have to apologize and maybe take her some flowers.
This week he did just that.
He showed up in Louisville with flowers for her and kept his word. Terrence is finishing up his school semester and getting ready to go pro. I was really impressed that he took the time to follow through.
Way to go Terrence Jones!
