Rainy Vacation Days

We all want perfect weather when we go on vacation. This year my family joined together for vacation in Holden Beach, NC.

The week started out with high hopes of bike rides and fun in the sun.

However, it rained, and rained, and then rained some more. We'd come from KY, TX and SC for this week, and we refused to let rain take away our fun.

One day we went to a family fun center where both granddaughters bowled for the first time. The oldest even got to play laser tag.

Another morning, we had a girls' morning out and made pottery.

We played lots of games inside and enjoyed being together. We went out for ice cream and even shopped a little.

These were just some of the things we did during the rain. We were so happy to be together, we enjoyed every minute of Vacation 2018. I hope you're able to enjoy some fun family time this summer.

Vacation Plans

When you plan a vacation, do you plan clothes, sunscreen, maps, and a list of places where you have reservations? Once when I was growing up, we went to Florida with extended family. Part of the trip involved Disney World. When we went to check into the resort, the clerk told us we were a day late. There were quite a few unhappy campers after we received that news, but it all worked out.

If I can't find time to read on vacation, I feel like I've been ripped off. I buy books ahead of time to make sure I'll have something good to read. When I went to Spain, I loaded my Kindle so I wouldn't have the added weight and I read on the plane, in airports, and in our down time.

In this picture, my backpack is stuffed with more than my Kindle for a weekend trip to London.

I also enjoy visiting bookstores when I'm on vacation. You never know what treasures you'll find like a local author who has written stories on the area.

This year Tim and I are heading back to Holden Beach, NC after years of visiting other places. I've already picked my books out and they are packed along with my travel Bible and devotional book. I even bought two books for Tim in case he wants to read. So, I'm ready and counting down the days.

Tim likes to take sports stuff like bocce ball and Kadima. It's good that we balance each other out. I encourage him to relax, and he encourages me to exercise.

I'd love to hear what you enjoy taking on vacation.

Discoveries

Do you ever surprise yourself? For years I thought I'd like to go to Paris. It's been an underlying desire that never made it to the top of my priority list. My life is good, and if I never make it to Paris it won't be the end of the world. There are so many places in the USA that I love to visit. Boston, Savannah, and Charleston, SC are a few of my favorite places. On a recent trip to Mobile, I enjoyed walking through downtown and looking at the old homes. This started me thinking. Not always a good thing. A friend of ours recently returned from Europe, and I loved looking at his pictures. If I did go to Paris, what would I want to do? I love art and want to see the museums. But as I looked at Tom's pictures I loved seeing the different architectural styles. I enjoy seeing old buildings and homes. When I've visited Boston, Savannah, Charleston, and Mobile, I've enjoyed walking around and studying the homes. Each area has a different style, but they are all beautiful cities. So whenever I go on vacation in the future, I want to take time to roam the city streets and learn what makes the city unique.

Vacation Reflections

My husband just returned from a week in North Carolina. We visited Mt. Airy and enjoyed that.
We visited family near Durham. Our niece and nephew are growing up too fast, and we left wishing we all lived closer together.
Next we got together with friends we've known over twenty years. No matter how long we're apart we pick right back up where we left off. They are a true blessing.

Then we spent a few days by ourselves riding bikes and kicking back.

Now we're back in Kentucky refreshed and ready to see what God has in store for us next.

I hope you all have a great week!

Vacation

Thankfully, God gave us a time to rest, and that's what I'm doing this week. See if you can guess where we are, and have a good week.

Ten of us are vacationing together from my family this week. I'll have lots of stories to share soon.
